Professorship in Scientific Computing with Emphasis on Applications in the Humanities, University of Heidelberg

The Interdisciplinary Center for Scientific Computing (IWR) of Heidelberg University invites applications for a Professorship (W3) in Scientific Computing with emphasis on applications in the Humanities. Applicants from Mathematics or Computer Science should have an eminent research record in the development of methods in Scientific Computing and their application in the Humanities and Cultural Sciences. They should have profound experience with interdisciplinary and application-oriented projects of the analysis, the interpretation, and the conservation, e. g., of historical images, cultural relics and artifacts.
Prerequisites for application are a university degree and in accordance with Article 47, paragraph 2, of the Higher Education Law of the State of Baden-Württemberg a Habilitation, a successfully evaluated junior professorship or equivalent qualifications.
This professorship is integrated into the Graduate School at the IWR and has full access to its infrastructure. The professorship belongs to the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science, but also a cooptation in the Faculty of Philosophy is desirable.
Adequate participation is expected in the teaching of undergraduate and graduate courses in Mathematics and Computer Science but also courses in the Humanities related to aspects of Scientific Computing. In general, German is the language of instruction.
The faculty intends to increase the number of women in teaching and research; women are therefore explicitly invited to apply. Handicapped persons with the same qualifications will be given preference.
