Postdoctoral Position in RNA Silencing, University of Copenhagen

Posted by: admin In: Biology and Life Science

The Department of Biology, University of Copenhagen, is recruiting a post doctoral researcher for a 2-year project to work on structural characterization of RNA silencing components. The study will be a joint project between the laboratories of Associate Professor Peter Brodersen at the University of Copenhagen and Associate Professor Ditlev E. Brodersen at the University of Aarhus.

Most of the work, in particular protein production, will be carried out in the laboratory of Peter Brodersen in Copenhagen Biocenter, but occasional travel between the two laboratories, and short-term stays in Ditlev E. Brodersen´s laboratory can be foreseen. The earliest possible starting date is January 16th 2012, a later starting date can be negotiated if necessary.

Peter Brodersen’s group uses genetic and biochemical approaches to study mechanisms employed by miRNAs to regulate gene expression in the plant Arabidopsis thaliana. Ditlev E. Brodersen’s group specializes on the biochemistry and structural biology of proteins involved in RNA metabolism and function. The goal of the present project is to purify central components of the plant silencing mechanism for structural characterization by X-ray crystallography.

Qualifications

Highly motivated individual with a PhD degree in biochemistry or molecular biology are encourages to apply. The successful applicant must have a thorough experience with protein purification, including different types of column chromatography, in addition to standard molecular biological skills. Experience with structural biology will be considered an advantage, but is not a formal requirement. The applicant must be fluent in written as well as spoken English. The position is open to all applicants regardless of nationality, and will be financed by a grant from the Lundbeck Foundation.

Condition

Terms of appointment and payment are in accordance with the agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Federation of Professional Associations (AC).
