Postdoc Position in Cloud Computing, Brandeis University

The Systems group in the Department of Computer Science at Brandeis University is announcing a position of an NSF postdoctoral research fellow in the area of cloud computing with emphasis on the performance management for cloud data services. Specifically we focus on SLA-driven techniques for workload allocation and resource provisioning, as well as mechanisms for supporting performance SLAs for cloud data processing applications.
Candidates will have the opportunity to work with students and faculty members of the System Group including Mitch Cherniack and Liuba Shrira. The research will be carried out in particular with the group headed by Prof. Olga Papaemmanouil.
The Department of Computer Science of Brandeis University has a Systems Research Group consisting of three faculty members and several PhD students, working on topics related to distributed storage, databases, distributed systems and networked information systems. The university is located in the greater Boston area, allowing the faculty members and students to participate in projects and maintain collaborations with institutions in the area, including M.I.T, Brown University, Yale and Northeastern University. Successful candidates are required to have the following skills/qualifications:
- PhD degree in Computer Science;
- Proficiency in both written and spoken English;
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills;
- Proven ability to perform high-quality research both independently and as a member of a team;
- Proven ability to develop real prototypes;
- Experience in distributed processing (Hadoop/Pig a plus).
The position is a regular job with health benefits and salary of $60,000 per year. The position is for one year with the possibility of extension for a second year.
